About the Show

The Container Operations Podcast is a working-engineer's audio companion to the rest of this site. Each episode is a focused conversation — typically twenty to forty minutes — on a single workflow, integration, or operational decision that depot operators, reefer service managers, and shipping-line M&R teams have to make every week. The bias is toward the specific over the abstract: how an actual container number OCR pipeline copes with rain on the camera lens, what a Maersk AEMS cost-recovery submission looks like end to end, why a particular gate-flow design fails on a multi-booking visit. Hosted by the engineering team that builds and supports Checker, Tracker, and Autogate.
Episodes alternate between three formats. Practitioner interviews bring in depot supervisors, reefer technicians, and shipping-line ops managers to talk through a workflow they own — what they changed when they introduced structured documentation, what broke, and what they would do differently. Engineering deep dives unpack one technical layer at a time: ISO 6346 check-digit validation in production, the failure modes of corner-cast OCR under glare, the trade-offs of on-premise vs. cloud OCR for a depot with intermittent connectivity. Field recordings drop in for shorter episodes — captured during a deployment or a customer visit — for listeners who want to hear what the work actually sounds like rather than read another case study.
New episodes drop roughly every three to four weeks, on a rolling schedule rather than a fixed day. The feed is published at /podcast/feed.xml with full-resolution audio enclosures, RFC-822 timestamps, and stable per-episode GUIDs that survive renames — so any podcast client (or AI agent indexing the feed) can subscribe today and rely on the catalogue staying coherent over time. Apple Podcasts and Spotify directory listings are queued for submission once the catalogue passes the directories' minimum-episode threshold; until then, paste the RSS URL directly into any client that supports custom feeds.
